ENTREPRENURIAL SKILLS
During one of my recent visits to an Engineering
college to address the students on “Employability Skills”, I was surprised to
find over ninety five percent of them had no idea of entrepreneurship, leave
alone the required skills!
I strongly believe that the entrepreneurial skills
should become a part of the learning process at least from the middle level of
schooling. My experiments with some school children did bring some interesting
outcomes!
I think one paper in a semester in all colleges of
Engineering and Technology should be dedicated to Entrepreneurship. Need
analysis, conceptualization of projects, Market surveys, cost analysis, impact
analysis, competition Management and quality assurance concepts have to be
inculcated in all learning systems immaterial of the discipline of learning. These
are some essential pragmatic skills the students leaving a college or a
university would find relevant, whatever career they choose. . I am sure most
companies look for these skills whatever their products be!
During a recent visit to a public school, I was
surprised to find a note on how the 5 S model of quality management is
practised in their primary section. .. May be it is a small and feeble step..
but the idea is great..
India cannot compete with the world unless we
deliver quality and have a sense of enterprise..
It is time our educational institutions wake up!
