REVAMPING TEACHER EDUCATION CURRICULUM
The scenario of the classrooms has totally changed.
Learning appears to be multi-polar, informal and non-linear.
It is time the teacher education curriculum
meaningfully responds to the emerging needs. While one would certainly admit
that the core essentials of the heritage of the country needs to be passed on
with care and comfort to posterity, It is equally important to be relevant to
the learning needs of the present and future learners. More so, all learning in
school systems is focused on future requirements also and not only the current
requirements.
I strongly believe that revamping Teacher education
curriculum encompassing some of the following features is required:
a. Learning as envisaged in recent researches in
Neuro-cognitive sciences
b. Developing “knowledge- skill” correlation
c. Ethics and Life skills as integral to learning of
various disciplines
d. Development of Emotional intelligence among learners
e. Body
language of Teachers
f. Quality assurance and delivery in learning systems
g. School Safety – Infrastructural, health – physical
& Mental,
i. Change Management –principles and practices
Each of these can be developed as a separate discipline
of learning. Can also be offered as an optional paper if the universities so
desire...
