Revamping Teacher education curriculum

REVAMPING TEACHER EDUCATION CURRICULUM

The scenario of the classrooms has totally changed.

Learning appears to be multi-polar, informal and non-linear.
It is time the teacher education curriculum meaningfully responds to the emerging needs. While one would certainly admit that the core essentials of the heritage of the country needs to be passed on with care and comfort to posterity, It is equally important to be relevant to the learning needs of the present and future learners. More so, all learning in school systems is focused on future requirements also and not only the current requirements.

I strongly believe that revamping Teacher education curriculum encompassing some of the following features is required:

a. Learning as envisaged in recent researches in Neuro-cognitive sciences
b. Developing “knowledge- skill” correlation
c. Ethics and Life skills as integral to learning of various disciplines
d. Development of Emotional intelligence among learners
e.   Body language of Teachers
f. Quality assurance and delivery in learning systems
g. School Safety – Infrastructural, health – physical & Mental,
i. Change Management –principles and practices

Each of these can be developed as a separate discipline of learning. Can also be offered as an optional paper if the universities so desire...
