IN SEARCH OF OXYGEN AT DELHI
Down
the memory lane, I recall an article published in the magazine “The Illustrated
Weekly of India” in late sixties – titled “In Delhi Without a Visa”. The
article was authored by a retired Civil Services Officer, from Kerala. It was
his reflection of being at the capital city for over twenty years. Fifty years
from then, today one cannot agree with the very title as a large number of
Indian across the country from far and wide, have made Delhi their own home,
harmoniously or otherwise. I have been no exception having spent nearly two
decades at this city which I adored for impressive buildings, wide roads, for
its greens, for its lovely winter, for the dawn of Vasanth decorated through
the flowers across the road, a little ahead of Holi. Love you Delhi…
As I
walked along the Connaught Circus, a young lady stopped me sporting her mike
before me (from an electronic media) with a question “Sir, are you odd or
even?”. And I smiled and said, “Neither. I am human” I walked along the narrow
lanes of Chandni chowk, the busy roads of Darya Ganj, through the gateways of
the India gate, the Raj path, the ever busy Ajmal Khan Road, Mayapuri, Dwarka
and a few more. hey, I couldn’t buy a bottle of Oxygen. A city that arrogates
itself for all products under the earth doesn’t have in its markets bottles of
Oxygen for its people! Hopefully, the
businessmen of Delhi would learn a lesson for the entrepreneurial scope the
material has.
Oxygen-
the most critical need of Delhi today… with pollution likely to touch a four-figure
numerical mark. The common man is crying. not because he regrets for a mistake
that has happened over the years, but just because the eyes are irritating, he
is unable to breathe safe, he couldn’t boast of his vision… And there is a game
going on. football, basketball. everyone now knows how to pass the ball. either
to Punjab or Haryana or elsewhere… The senior politicians are busy eating the
carrots and enjoying the music. Brooms, they know, cannot sweep the air…
I am
no politician. I shun criticizing people for whatever reason they deserve to.
The air pollution at Delhi is not a new phenomenon. It occurs every year and
helps the media barons to find more money by increased TRP rating. No body is
willing to learn a lesson. Even if, they think there is some solution, they are
hesitant. just because the passing the buck game, keeps them in the news
headlines. There is a law and there are organizations which are empowered to
implement. But the officials may be discussing the seriousness of this issue
either in Shimla or Manali, because Delhi is polluted. The Hon’ble courts have
certainly taken cognizance of this issue and passed orders. We have great
respect for them and salute them for their orders. But we have certainly a number
of reasons to be listed in our print outs to be submitted to them why this will
not happen.
It is
only the wind to blame. How dare it could carry the smoke from Punjab and
Haryana to Delhi. The Wind God Vayu should be ashamed of what he is doing! It
is his responsibility and not ours. We will continue to suffocate, but
certainly will not do anything to settle this issue once for all. Some stupid
scientists have to earn their salary by projecting a number of particles per
million every hour. Let us appreciate them for doing a good job.
Delhi.
the gas chamber. has a few questions to ask its people..
Hey, who
among you is responsible for all this?
Is
there no way to clean my air?
Is
there no technology to convert those farm waste into recycles?
Is
there no scientific method to convert them into organic consumables to feed
Mother earth?
Is
there no method to regulate the process by which it need not result in air
pollution?
When
the law can deprive the young children of the joy of bursting the crackers for
one day during the festive season because the air is polluted by smoke, can it
not prevent scores of people polluting the air and just celebrating the profile
of their ego?
Priestly,
Lavoisier, Scheele, - the trio who made all their efforts to discover Oxygen,
if reborn, might need a safe haven at Delhi, to reinvent Oxygen!
OXYGEN - Prana Vayu – We are playing with the
“prana of the people”. – Remember, it is
not an issue exclusive to Delhi… The air is common to anyone who breathes.
A realistic assessment of the situation Sir.
