Ogden Nash was an admirable French- Engish poet who had a
great sense of humour. Had he been alive and visited India now, he may have
written a poem like this!
Chai pe
Charchaa… (Chat over a cup of Tea)
That
was a chilly night,
The
winds blowing cold
And my
friend sporting a scarf
Around
his neck and head,
Sneezing
badly now and then
Walked
to the shop nearby
“Hey Chaiwaale,
make a hot cup of ginger tea”
And sat
firmly on the chair nearby!
The Chaiwaala
got busy
With
the boiling ginger tea!
And the
friend admiring
His skills
of making the ginger Tea!
Sipping
the hot ginger Tea
Said he
in an acidic tone:
“I wish
you had done
Your
studies in IIT
You
would have learnt
“To make a better brew of Tea!”
The
chaiwala smiled
And got
busy with
The
boiling tea!
“Quickly
sir..” said he
“other
clients are
Waiting
for Tea”
“Others?
“ asked
The man
who had
Walked
out of the gates of IIT
“where
are they from?”
The
chaiwala replied:
“They
are from
Oxford,
Stanford, Bradford
Harvard
and MIT”
”Mad”
Said
the friend
“why
should they
Come
for a cup of ginger tea
To a
chaiwalaa
Who has
not studied in IIT?”
The
Chaiwale uncle replied:
“Quiet
please!
No
politics in my stall of Tea!
It
makes no difference to me
Whether
they studied in MIT or IIT
So long
they buy my cup of tea!”
For
long did my friend
Sat
there -
Watching
who came and went
And to
find the magic of
Making
a cup of ginger Tea!
And
then said he,
“Hey,Chaiwaale,
Get me
another cup
Hot
ginger Tea..
For
they don’t teach us
In IIT
How to
make
A cup
of hot ginger Tea!”
(PS:
This is a simple poem.. Don’t read between the lines to make any other
meaning.. if you do, I am not responsible)
